Irina Emchenko Gave a Presentation at the Forum of Russian and Brazilian Entrepreneurs Councils

On February 15, the Forum of Russian and Brazilian Entrepreneurs Councils took place in Moscow. As part of this event, business people, representatives of public and civic organisations of the two countries discussed the issues and perspectives of trade, economic and investment cooperation.

Irina Emchenko, Head of the International Development Department with GEROPHARM gave a presentation to the Forum participants about Russian insulins export and production localisation in Brazil.

She mentioned that approx. 10 % of Brazilians suffer from diabetes mellitus and many of them need daily insulin injections. The Brazilian insulin market is dominated by US and European pharmaceutical manufacturers and the public healthcare currently depends on the imports of these vital medicines. That is why GEROPHARM is optimistic about the two countries’ cooperation in insulin production and sales.

Irina noted that Brazil has a potential to become a hub for medicinal products export to other countries in Latin America. However, gaining access to the Brazilian market for the Russian medicinal products is not an easy task because of regulatory policy and taxation rules that impose high import duties even on vital medicines such as insulins. That is why the support of the state is so important for Russian pharmaceutical companies to develop trade and economic relations.
